Dumping Render Files
October 25, 2005 11:27AM
I have a project that I have been working on for over a year and I know that some of the render files are old but I cn't really tell which ones are actually being used presently and which ones are old and just taking up disk space. Is there a way for me to find out which render files are currently part of the film? What would happen if I dumped all of my render files and rendered the entire film from scratch?

Tools - Render Manager.

Nothing -- unless there's something wrong with your FCP right now and it can't recreate the render files properly. Otherwise, it's a very common and often desireable troubleshooting step. Check to make sure, however, that you didn't put any files into the Render Files folders by mistake. For example, due to some unknown programmer's logic, when you do a Batch Export from FCP, the default location is the Render Files folder, which makes no sense whatsoever.
