editing 25p in FCP 4.0

I'm not really clear on how to do this. Can I edit 25p quicktime files with
FCP 4.0 ?
I have a G4 Powerbook with a 800mhz processor and OSX 10.2.8.

A friend is shooting with a Sony Z-1 in 25p and will be on-lining with Vegas Video as he is doing his own viz effects. He will capture - and deliver media on a drive. As far as I can tell he just needs to convert clips to 25p quicktime files - am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Actually, PAL's 25 fps format is supported in FCP4. Choose this option with project settings when opening your new project.

What's great is, that you can export it in the NTSC format when your editiing is complete to play on American equipment.

Sony Z-1 does NOT shoot in progressive, so I wonder how you friend does that ?

just a crappy "cineframe" (progressive look like) mode cutting half vertical resolution

Doesn't that require Nattress Standards Conversion? I've heard that Compressor 2 and FCP can make the PAL-NTSC bridge, but not well.

Well, with 25p PAL, you can just slow to 23.98fps and add 3:2 pulldown for NTSC.

And FCP4 handles PAL just fine, but it doesn't do HDV, so if you're shooting DV on teh Z1 you're fine, but not HDV.

He's shooting HDV - but can't captured HDV files be converted to SD? What happens to frame size when this is done?

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.

My mistake - much of what is written about the Z-1 obfuscates the difference.

Well, if you're shooting HDV it's high def, and if you convert down to SD, you're going from 1440x1080 to 720x576, which is a significant drop.
