Is there a "White Wash" or "Flash" transition effect in FCP5?
November 29, 2005 01:02AM
Hey guys,
I'm trying to get a transition effect of a "white Wash or like a Flash" in FCP5? It's an effect you see on tv when people get a make over from looking bad to looking really cool with a transition that looks like a flash or white wash.
Anyone please,
Thanks in advance,

Zia

Use the Dip to Color Dissolve and set it to a very short duration. Or fade to a white Color Matte -- about a six-frame dissolve to it and a two-to-four-frame dissolve out of it should look pretty good. Too Much Too Soon also has a "Flashframe" transition, though it has almost no controllable parameters and tends to last too short a time, in addition to blowing broadcast-safe levels. Nattress Film Effects also includes a "Flash" filter that can add flashes to either the head or tail of a clip.

Zia,
Go into your effects bin, video transitions>dissolves and drag a "dip to color" dissolve onto your edit point. Double click on one side of it, to open the transition editor. Set the duration for about 15 frames or there abouts depending on how quick you want the flash then click on the black box in the color parameter line. Drag the slider next to the color wheel, or any other method you choose to select "white" then hit ok. Play the edit and you should now have a white flash you can save in your favorites bin, to use again, by clicking back in the viewer and hiting option F.
There are a few plugins that do this too. Check out:
