fcp with sony hvr z-1u

i've got fcp dv (not the newer hdv version). i'm using a mac g-5 dual 1.8gig. the camera i'm shooting with is the sony hvr-z1u "prosumer hi def" camera. as i understand it, i could use the new hdv version of final cut and import directly. however, i'm not currently able to make the upgrade so i was wondering what i've got to do to get the footage in (what 3rd party hardware, software, etc) in full resolution. also wondering how the process works (what i have to do to put all of this together and then how to use it).
