Fastest way to replace a slug

I have slugged in some text in place of images I don't yet have. What's the fastest or easiest way to replace a 5 second piece of black with a 1 minute clip?

Here's my work-around:

Set the length of the new clip.
Change the duration of the slug.
Put an in-point on the timeline.
Overwrite edit.

But if the clip is longer than 1min 5sec, this won't work, since slugs have a limit on how long they can be.

Any recommenations would be appreciated.

I think it might be faster to Insert Edit the new longer clip before the slug, then delete the slug after it. Changing the duration of the slug seems to me to be a wasteful step.

You're totally right. I was too close to it to see that. Thanks.

Replace Edit. That's what it's for.

Using Replace Edit, I think he would have to extend the slug first...which seems like a waste of time for me.

Still, some people can execute six familiar steps faster than two unfamiliar ones. As long as we can achieve what we want quickly and intuitively, how we get there is a simple matter of preference.
