Upgrade OSX now cant locate external devices

Hi all,
everything was groovey until i upgraded to OSX 10.4. Now i have booted my machine and cant conect my panasonic gs400 to capture. I Get that message on FCP start up that says 'unable to locate external devices, Apple fire wire' etc...

I have trashed the pref's then restarted FCP.
I have tried the other firewire port on the back of the machine.
What other pointers am i missing?
