HDV projection and old equipment

Posted by pankaj Butalia

Dear Brandon,
Thanks for the excellent article on July 25 on Ken Stone's FCP web site. I live in India, own a G4 (dual processors) and am upgrading to FCP 5 from FCP 3.04.
I'm thinking of doing a small project I have with limited money on HDV with the Sony HVR-Z1.
Two things bother me and since I shoot in three days (19th Sep) I was wondering if I could ask you two questions, please ?
1. Will my system be able to handle capture and editing HDV without and any additional equipment and software ?
2. How do I screen the film on HDV ? Can ordinary DVCam players play back HDV as HDV or will I have to output on SD and project SD. I don't think there are any specialized players for HDV in India yet...
Will really be obliged if you could find a minute to respond to this.
Thanks.
Pankaj

Cheapest and simplest way to project HDV is off your Hard Drive. Just hook your Mac to the projector and play the movie. Otherwise its component out from the HDV camera to a HD-SDI converter to the projector plus RCA audio into projector. We use a AJA HD10A and its very expensive
