Posted by gabe
oy. been wrestling with this all day.

FCP 3.0.2
i know, i know; i'm switching to a G4, next month (apple's saying they're on back order...)
(how impossible is it going to be to switch to a G4? has anyone done this and sucessfully brought their film over to a new system???)

so: general error (34)
it only happnes when i try to open this ONE sequence. i have 5 in the film, and the other 4 open fine.
even this one sequence was fine 2 days ago
i tried trashing the perfs
i tried disconnecting any 1394 external drives.

nothing's working. anyone have any ideas?
help, please, oh please...

May be a corrupted sequence. Have you run a disk utility such as disk warrior yet?

Mike

Try copying everything from that sequence into a new sequence. Or, copy that sequence to a new project file. Sometimes that gets rid of inexplicable problems.

oy. well, thank you both so much for responding.
here's what happened:
yes, i tried disk warrior, etc -- no problems.

the problem seems to be what derek mentioned.
i couldn't get into the damn sequence, so i couldn't copy it (when i duplicated it, the duplicate sequence also had problems)
so i decide3d it was a corruption of some sort.
do i re-capture ALL the film for the sequence??? oy.....

i decided to get past the general error 34 by doing what you said, derek, kinda.
i went to an archived version of the film, and dragged that sequence (more or less similar to what i had at this point.)
and voila.
once the new sequence was in the timline, everything seemed to jigger back into place.

some of the media seems to need reconnecting -- and it's being difficult, but that's a much more delaable problem.

now if i can only get 10 hours of my life back...

tnaks again...
