Firewire connection to DSR-25
November 27, 2005 01:40PM
For some reason I have lost the connection to my DSR-25, FC nolonger sees it
and I've changed nothing. Is it possible the firewire cable just went bad?

I've checked the connection and it seems OK.

I have a G5 duel 2.5.

Any thoughts?

Unplug the cable, shut your mac down. Wait a few minutes. Plug cable back in. Turn on deck. Boot up mac. Boot up FCP. See if that did anything.

If not try another FW port, trash FCP prefs.

I have the same problem, since I have FCP 5.0.3. on mine G5 duel.
Everytime Ihave to restart the computer when I open a project, even when FCP sops all of a sunden.
Is this normal?
What can I do to avoid this?
And in my project FCP seems to change itself, withouth asking me, the settings in VIEW-external video from ALL FRAMES into OFF. And then I have to re-start the computer again. Which is very anoying.
What to do?

Thanks!
Bye

I've tried all you suggested and still nothing...

Do you suppose the firewire ports are bad? Or could it just be
the cable? The cable is probably 4-5 years old.

The building did take a major power failure last week, but I
remember the video working after that.

Hay!

thanks for suggestion! I did it, and in the beginning it worked! I was very happy, But now I burn a DVD with IDVD, and the same problem occurs. Is that the reason of dis- connecting? Do I have to stop burning DVD's or even opening IDVD?
I can not try it now, because he is burning...

And in my project FCP 5.0.3 he still seems to change itself, withouth asking me, the settings in VIEW-external video from ALL FRAMES into OFF. And then I have to re-start the computer again. Which is very anoying.
What to do?

Thanks!!

What same problem? Buring a DVD and FCP not seeing your deck are different issues.

hay!
thanks again, i tried this but it did not help.
i thought maybe it has to do with idvd, because he asks me:
"Unable to open Video Output device. FCP may be in use by abother application......" And maybe IDVD is the other application...Or is this not true?

Tell us the steps you are using to burn this DVD. From FCP to iDVD to Burn

hello

I export from the timeline "MOVIE SELF CONTAINED" to the harddisk, and then open IDVD ad drag this into IDVD and burn it.

Post this problem in our DVD forum. Might be an answer there

This can happen if your copy of Final Cut Pro is pirated, or you have it installed on multiple stations without clearance. Do you?

As Michael says, you're talking about two different issues. iDVD isn't interacting with your deck at all. Why don't you simply quit FCP when you're burning the DVD?

You shouldn't have to. Just go into System Settings - Audio/Video Settings and check your Video Playback. The shortcut for toggling External Video is APPLE-F12.

Hay!
now i have checked it out: i did what they suggested me to do: throw away my old quicktime settings: and it worked!! but when i put on my idvd, the connection to my recorder is indeed gone! so it has to do with
Idvd.
thanks!!
