Time Code Window Burn

Time Code Window Burn

We are trying to use the time code reader/generator to create a window burn. The manual says to nest the sequence and then apply the filter to create the burn. The burn appears, but it is not reading the timeline TC. It is reading the source TC. How can we fix this.

Also, when you apply the filter to the nested clip, you are unable to access the filter controls to size and locate the burn window. Is there a way to to do this?

Make sure to choose Timecode generator intead of timecode reader for this job.

To access the filter once it is applied to a nest, single click on the nest, then press return to open the nest in the viewer. Then choose the filters tab to make your changes.

That shouldn't be...Timecode Reader is what I'd use. What version of FCP are you using? I seem to remember FCP2 or FCP3 having a more complicated Timecode Burn filter that required you to pick which timecode it reads. In FCP4.5 and above, the Timecode Reader filter, when applied to a sequence nested in another sequence, should read the timeline timecode of the nested sequence without a problem.

We are using FCP 5.0.3. The strange thing is that if you create a black clip and place it above the nest, crop it where you want the burn to appear and apply the filter, the generator will read the timeline TC accurately once you set the hour and frame offset to match what you see in the position window. The reader still is not accurate even using this method.
