Don't even get me started on THAT horrible excuse for a format!!! I had to rebuild a DVD from the original source material that was cut on Adobe Premiere and the translation from AVI to MOV was a nightmare.

Be aware of luminance and/or color shifts, especially if you convert to MOV on your mac.

Best advice I can give is get the conversion done from AVI to MOV on a PC. The best quality I got was from getting my hands on Adobe Premiere (on PC) and exporting the AVI to quicktime, then moving it across my network to the MAC.

If you don't have a pc, use quicktime pro to convert it to a .mov before importing to FCP. You will probably have to play with the colour if it needs to match.

I agree with Andy though. Nasty codec.

Don't under any circumstance try to use the AVI without converting. FCP *can* see, import and edit with AVI files, but having them in a timeline will slow your system down to a crawl.
