Recording dvd/tv footage to be edited on FCP

Posted by Charles
Hey guys, i need some tv footage and other visuals from some DVDs i have.

I've got a sony cam corder (Hc1e), a tv and a dvd.

I thought of maybe using my cam corder to record the dvd footage off the dvd player. And perhaps hooking my cam corder to the tv and using it to record tv footage.

Trouble, is i don't have the A/V IN slot for my cam corder, which is a requisite to try my approach.

Is there any other way of taking footage? Short of filming the actual tv screen LOL..

For DVD footage, use MPEG Streamclip to extract. Google it.

I assume when you say "TV footage" you mean VHS tape. Hook the VHS deck to whatever your capture device is, then use FCP's Non-Controllable Device setting to digitize. If the camcorder doesn't have any inputs (common for crappy consumer cameras), you'll need to find some kind of deck/camera that would talk to FCP.
