I'm in the middle of a big project with tons of footage.
I've been using several GRaid drives. Mostly 500 and 800 gigs each.

We are thinking about switching over to an Xserve for storage.

Does anyone know if there are any issues with an xserve using FCP?

Thanks.

Xserve RAID works great with FCP. You'll need a fibre card too. They're a touch loud, but bullet-proof. If you need multiple macs to access the storage, get a fibre switch and MetaSAN - working superb here.

I love the XServe. Been using one for over three years, two FCP stations accessing it. It's great. There are cheaper solutions out there, of course, but if that's not the most important thing, the XServe is very reliable.

A word of caution on the fibre card: There was one we had (can't remember the manufacturer) that broke -- the input socket's housing was not designed for switching out the fibre cable. The lesson is, configure your system and leave it that way.

What's that? Can you speak up?

They're loud. Make sure to mount it in another room or inside a case.

Apart from that, very nice.

Looking at running some long fibre myself to get it into another room. Finally getting fed up of the sound from that and the fibre switch. I don't have room for the funky accoustic racks.
