Can anyone suggest hardware to speed up the rendering of Jpegs in the timeline?

The only thing that can speed up renders is a faster processor. So faster Mac.

Video cards have a roll in rendering as well

Video cards don't help with rendering whatsoever. Unless you are using Magic Bullet. That is the only set of plugins I know that utilize the GFX card.

Motion benefits from the better card, but not FCP.

There are rumours concerning a hardware acceleration board for the yet to be released intel PowerMacs - I will do my journo bit and attempt to find out more but I guess with NAB coming up there will be some announcements soon...

It could all be wishful thinking at this point, but with the stranglehold that FCP has on the post production arena it would be foolish not to make a high end video processing board ala Adrenaline or DPS Velocity to boost FCP use in quick turnaround high end post houses and also for the upcoming 4K digital cinema promised by Oakley's (Red) foray into Cameras and CODECs.
