Project from Avid to FCP5

i mainly work with Final Cut Pro but i might edit a film that was already started on Avid.
all the footage has been captured and logged into an EXTERNAL DRIVE with Avid and a few rough cuts have been made in Avid.
is there a painless way to be able to use the digitized footage on the EXTERNAL drive AND also get the rough cuts to open on FCP 5?
ideally, i would like a clone of the Avid project to be able to open on FCP.
is it possible?
if so, how problematic/time consuming is it?
