FCP not recognizing my new HDV camera (HDR-HC1)

FCP not recognizing my new HDV camera (HDR-HC1)
Mac OS 10.3.7
HD version of FCP

any ideas?
when i click external video, all sub categories greyed out
if i refresh AV devices, nothing happens
if i change the video playback from none to desktop digital cinema desktop preview, then all screen goes black???

If you have I-link turned on turn it off.

I had the same problem with the Sony HVR-M10U deck. I was advised to upgrade to OS 10.4.6 and FCP 5.0.4. And in the deck menu switched off the iLink (as Michael mentioned) so it was a straight HDV signal going into FCP (no down-rez). Then it worked like a charm.

final cut HD, or FCP 5? if its FCP HD, its false advertising and you need HDVxDV or Lumiere HD.

Good catch Ryan but its not false advertising. FCP HD never did HDV and never claimed too.

true. however a lot of people just assume HD and HDV are the same, and FCP HD "sounds" like it would be able to handle hdv. I used HDVxDV and Lumiere, I would go with HDVxDV plus Brad was always helpful with support, but for times sake I usually just use the built-in HDV setup within FCP 5.

Those that "assume" without doing research get what they deserve, I'm afraid...especially when it comes to HD & HDV (totally unrelated formats). I would upgrade to 5.0.4 if that's the case.
