HDV and DV in the same project

System specs:
FCP 5.0.4
OS 10.4.6
QT 7.0.4

In short, I'm cutting HDV "bookends" into a DV feature (in PAL). I captured the HDV into FCP at 1440x1080/50i and batch exported (down-rezzed) the clips to "DV PAL 48 KHz" to cut into the current SD sequence (to avoid rendering). So far so good. The problem arises when I reconnect to the original HDV clips...after resizing the clips, they are no longer 1440x1080 and don't fit nicely into the 16:9 frame the way they originally did (there are very thin black mattes on top & bottom, like it wants to be 1280x1080).

The only weird thing I can see is, in the browser under the "Pixel Aspect" column, the original HDV clips have a pixel aspect of 1440x1080...after the down-rez to DV they change to PAL - CCIR 601...but after reconnecting back to HDV they remain at PAL - CCIR 601 instead of 1440x1080. I looked to see if I could set the pixel aspect before batch exporting, but there are limited settings in batch export, nothing for pixel aspect.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks for any suggestions?

HDV isn't 16:9. It's displayed as if it was, but the pixel format is not. This burns you when you try to export stills.

when you export stills, go into photoshop and change the image size from 1440x1080 to 1920x1080. works for me.

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps I misspoke when I said 16:9. Point is, I can't figure out why the originally-captured HDV clips are 1440 and then later, after reconnecting, they are matted to 1280.
