You have to ripple back the nested sequence to create room for the transition. FCP treats a nested sequence as a complete piece of media.

All the best,

Tom...what does ripleback ...mean? ru

He means to trim the end of the nest inward to create overlap for a dissolve out.

Another way to do it would be to keyfrmae a fade ramp form one track toanother.

Rog,
Appears you do not understand the concept of having extra media or "Handle" for your transition. This is somewhat crucial to troubleshooting problems related to transitions.

All the answers are correct; however, one issue has not been metioned. Being that you do have to trim (ripple back) each end of the nest to allow handles for transition, it is wise to make your nest one second longer, at each end, so when you ripple back you still have the content that you intended for the edit.
