external video missing

Hi there,

New user, first post. FCP user from Sydney Australia. I run a small video production business from my home studio and like everyone else working for a break into feature film making

I have an 2004 dual 1.8 G5 running 0SX 10.3.9 with 1.25 gig ram.

I recently had a hard drive crash but I only lost my operating system but retained my media drive which has all my FCP files. I have since reloaded FCP 4.5 and now FCP won't recognise my camera deck. I use a little Sony DSRTRV18e to import video and also run it to 34cm TV monitor.

I have done the following -
1. Checked connections
2. Went to audio/video settings and the dialogue box tells me it's missing. refresh does nothing -
3.Checked that the computers system profiler recognises the firewire connection - it does!
4. I trashed the preferences - still no go (Have tried this twice and the 2nd time the "com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist was not there??

Still I have no joy and deadlines approaching.

Would love some advice, would be much appreciated.

Are you running QT 6 or 7? There is an issue out there with deck recognition after an update to QT 7.
