HDV Workflow

Need somehelp. Can someone please share their workflow for capturing and editing from a JVC HD100 HDV using FCP 5.04?

I'll let you know how this works.

I have 2 questions.

1. When capturing, you say it will break up the capture into clips. Is the capture just randomly split? Let's say it splits in the middle of a line of dialogue. Can the 2 clips be joined together to make one clip?

2. Do you know about how much space 1 hour of this HDV footage will use on a hard drive?
