Dell monitor and Powermac G4

Posted by Anthony Avildsen
Can I run a Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW 24" monitor with my Dual 1.25 G4?

I know I need an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card...which I need to connect to my macs power supply- is that easy?

You dont need a 9800 to run a Dell. Just plug it in to your stock card that came with your Mac. 1.25 came with a ATI 9000 right? DVI or VGA. Plug and play.

DVI!

Don't use the VGA. Really cheapens the image, and nixes any benefit in resolution you get with the monitor.

If you card only has ADC and VGA, get an ADC>DVI adaptor. Does wonders.

as Mike says you don't need a 9800 card to run a 2405 but if you want to run Motion you would need it

the 9000 has a ADC port and an DVI-I port and supports up to 1920x1200 which is what the 2405 needs (the DVI-I port)

As Shane says DON'T USE THE VGA

BTW it rocks with the 9800 if you want to get that card but don't get it if you arn't going to be running Motion or need the VGA output (to drive a second monitor)
