BWF/AIFF/WAVE & Final Cut Pro ?
September 04, 2006 02:06PM
Hi.
I am about to begin an edit and will be working on a Macbook 2.0 GHZ with 2 GB RAM
using FPC 5.1
The question is about the sound, I have earlier only used AIFF files which has worked well.
This time the sound might come as wave files, does FPC 5.1 support these ?
And what is the difference between BWF (Broadcast Wave Format) and Wave files ? Or
are they the same thing ?
I expect 25 hours of rushes, picture will be transferred to DV.

Thanks so much.

Wav files will be fine. BWF will require a third party app - Sebsky Tools

It's free but donate some money if you can!

Sebsky tools is no longer being developed. If you are working at standard frame rates it works fine.

BWF2XML from Andreas who appears here on this forum is a tool we use every day for converting 4 track a.k.a. polyphonic BWF files to .MOVs for use in FCP.

Andreas can add more information but .WAV and .BWF are slightly different wrappers for the same audio format. BWF can carry metadata that needs to be extracted for use in FCP, most importantly, timecode.
