Drive Me Crazy

Hi all

I am trying to get some shows off a media drive that I had crash
2 yrs ago on my old G4 tower--

I now have Disk warrior and want to see if I can use it to retreave the shows-

The problem is I dont remember which drive it First on the
ribbon wire--system or media -

Is the system drive closest to the board connection
or is it the last (furthest from board) on the ribbon wire--
I just cant remember-- Thanks --Jay--

Can't answer the drive question, but be aware that Disk Warrior is not a data recovery program as such - it does nothing but rebuild directories. Often a corrupted directory structure is what renders a drive completely unreadable, and DW works magic on that, but a truly "crashed" drive will not respond to DW.

There was another thread on data recovery a couple of days ago.

Hi Scott

Yep I know Diskwarrior is not a recovery program--
The disk just was not showing up on the desk top-

I did not have the time to mess with the disk at the time
so I just changed it out and did not run any disk tools--

I just cant remember which is the master and slave drive
on the ribbon wire setup --

Im perty sure the closest drive to the board connector is the Master(system)
but Im perty tired and dont remember for sure--Jay--

I believe modern machines all use Cable Select. Set the drive to that and see what happens.

You can force the system to recognize one drive as master and the other as slave no matter what kind of cable it has by changing the jumpers on each drive. They should be marked.

You may be stuck pulling the existing drive to figure out what you have.
