text with accents

So, I have to put some text onto a video i'm doing but the text is in slovenian. How do i get accents on the text, like the e at the end of "cafe" or "cliche". To be fair the one I need to use is like a small "v" that goes on top of some letters but I figure I'll find them in the same place.

I'm on FC express by the way.

any ideas?

Here are some common ones:

OPTION-E, vowel: Accent aigu (é would be OPTION-E, E)
OPTION-`, vowel: Accent grave (è would be OPTION-`, E)
OPTION-U, vowel: Umlaut (ë would be OPTION-U, E)
OPTION-I, vowel: Circon-flex (ê would be OPTION-I, E)
OPTION-C: Cedi (ç)
OPTION-N, character: Spanish squiggly (sorry, I don't speak it. It's this -- ñ would be OPTION-N, N)

Go into OSX System Preferences - Personal - International - Input Menu and make sure Keyboard Viewer is checked. Then go to the top right of your desktop to access Keyboard Viewer. While in the viewer, hold down OPTION, APPLE, CONTROL and other commands to see what other accents you can get.

If you're doing this a lot, you'd want to memorize some of the shortcuts. In my PC days I memorized most of the ASCII (?) input codes which involved holding down ALT and then keying in a three-digit code on the number pad.

If you want specific characters and/or accents go into:

System Preferences>International>Input Menu

Then check the Character Palette On

This should give you access to the palette from the Flag in top right corner of the menu bar.

? Simply line up your cursor in the document you wish to add the character to

? Open the character palette and double click the one you require. This should insert it into your document.

You can access some accents via keystrokes too.

Some of the standard keystrokes for accents/characters are:

To get an Acute Accent ´ is alt+e then the letter eg: á é í ó ú

To get a Grave Accent ` is alt+`(tilde key) eg: à è ì ò ù

To get an Umlaut or Dieresis ¨ is alt+u then the letter eg: ä ë ï ö ü

To get a Circumflex ^ is alt+i the the letter eg: â ê î ô û

To get a Tilde over letters ~ is alt+n the the letter eg: ã õ

To get a cedilla ç is alt+c

To get ø is alt+o

To get ß is alt+s

To get © is alt+g

To get ® is alt+r

To get å is alt+a

To get a ? is alt+shift+2

I hope this helps

Regards

Ben

Why didn't I think of that?

No more typing out all those commands. Yay!

And I never knew the accents' English names, either. I learned them from studying French for for eight years.

There IS 1 thing I don't know about FCP et al...

But if I told you I'd have to kill you.

Derek on the other hand knows everything and if he found out what I didn't know, it would kill him from laughter.

So for the sake of both your lives I shall keep schtum.
