DV-PAL Capture

Happy Holidays All-

A quick question, if you please.

I am working on a small project shot in PAL. Another first for me.

I have rented a deck that plays PAL and have set FCP presets in to DV-PAL.

When I try and import footage, the FCP can't see the deck.

Any suggestions?

The machine is the SONY HVR-M15U

Thanks,

That's an HDV deck (I think) so you need to go into the menus and make sure it's set up to play out DVCam over firewire. With deck NOT connected, go to "HDV/DV out" and make your selection, then "Video out", then "iLink set".

Then with the deck and computer off, connect the firewire cable, turn the deck on, then turn the computer on and launch FCP. See if that works, you may have to poke around with your device control pre-sets as well.

Okay--

We can get the audio and the time code to show in the capture window. As well we have device control. Have tried to capture DV-NTSC with no problem. But try to import PAL footage and no picture.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Did you quit out of Final Cut and shut down the deck before flipping the PAL switch? It's been awhile, but last I checked, some decks can't just change formats at the drop of a hat. You have to make sure there's no tape inside, shut the deck off, flip the switch, turn the deck back on, then launch FCP.
