Whether you know it or not, you're probably using Flip4Mac, which unless you pay for it will only encode short bits. I thought it was 2 minutes, but maybe there's a total data limit too.

Quicktime has no native support for WMV.

You might want to look at VisualHub as a very inexpensive and robust solution.

is there no way to convert .mov or .mp4 to a file that will play on windows media player for free?

export AVI through QTconversion

wont play through windows media player.

but will go into adobe premier, and you can export from there.

just depends how bad you really want it to play in WMV.

If at first you don't succeed, keep ****ing it up 'till it works!

is there a mandate that it MUST play through windows media or is that just what some joe average client said they needed? i have yet to come across a windows machine (since itunes went pc) that cant play an h.264 quicktime

Between RealMedia and Quicktime you can both play just about anything out there on a PC.

Also, the most current versions of Windows Media Player can play the self-contained Quicktime Movie if you place a .DV extension on it.

Sometimes.

thank you much for posts, gentlemen. it is indeed a customer with an outdated PC, so quicktime may not be an option, but i'll try.

Not to turn this into a flame war -- the vast majority of video on the web is .mpg, .flv, .mov and .wmv, not QT or real video.

I guess this is a copyright issue but it couldn't be that difficult for Apple to conform with the erst of society...

Chuck, .mov IS QuickTime.

RealPlayer is a dying breed, though.
