Anyone using MXO here ?

Dear All,

I am just wondering if someone is using Matrox MXO here and could give me some idea what that box is capable of? Especially if used with Macbook Pro.

Thanks!

It is capable of making your Apple 23" or Dell 24" display an HD color correction monitor...as well as giving you the ability to output your project to a variety of decks. HDV monitoring...DVCPRO HD monitoring...LOTS of stuff:

Excellent. What kind of performance can I expect regarding the playback when editing HDV/DVCPRO HD if using a laptop? 2-3 streams with picture-in-picture effect applied? More?

Does it support XDCAM 35mb format?

Playback performance in terms of how many streams all depends on the hard drives you have the media stored on, not the capture card you use. Need 2-3 streams of RT, then you are going to need a 2-4 drive eSATA Raid. A Firewire 800 drive might get you two streams...possibly 3.

The MXO is format agnostic, meaning that it will output any format that FCP works with...including XDCAM.

The MXO will downconvert HD to SD, and play back regular SD as well.

<<format agnostic>>

I love that. So, Shane, you are saying that the MXO believes in the existence of HDV, but doesn't want to call it High Def????

sorry, just had to chime in.

Sorry about the language ;

Mulla ollut käytössä about 2 kk.

I got one here, setting up a testbed.

Version 2.0 software has just been released.

It apparently supports *older* 23"-- and 20" Cinema Displays as well, with ADC to DVI adapters-- Matrox says it's betatetsing these inhouse without issues. Well, we'll see.

Loren, I would be very, very interested to hear about your experiences with MXO... especially the performance when running something a bit more demanding stuff through it to the monitor... i.e. some video with loads of effect on it etc.

What stuff is a "bit more demanding" than DVCPRO HD and HDV? I have tested it with those formats and a whole slew of plugins...looks great.
