Capturing sound through Mac mini jack input

Posted by H
I am capturing some picture shot on a Canon XLH1 shot at 24f via the SDI output on the camera through my Decklink HD Pro card and into FCP5.

Unfortunately the SDI output doesn't carry the sound, so I have to get it into FCP via the mini-jack input.

I've gone to Mac Prefs - Sound - Input and switched that to "Audio Line In port" and I see activity in the level meter from the camera playback.

Now I go to toggle over to the Mac prefs sound Output and switch that to "Line out - Built in audio". When I mess around with the Output volume I hear the quacking sound, so somethings going on.

My FCP5 Audio Viddeo setting for audio playback are set to Built in Audio.

My A/V devices - audio is set to "Built in Audio."

Can anyone tell me why I can't hear anything and why the capture window audio meters are not moving?

Many thanks and a big gold star if you can help.

Best wishes,

Harry.
Correction: Now I am getting audio meter activity in the FCP capture window.
But I still can't hear it.

with the log and capture window open select the CLIP SETTINGS tab
under the AUDIO section check the preview check box
this will enable audio preview when capturing

Thanks for the advice, David, but I'm still not hearing anything.

Any further ideas greatly appreciated.

Best
