4:3 to 16:9

4:3 to 16:9

I have some footage recorded on Sony XDCam that should be in 16:9 DV (pal) however one of the clips was accidentally recorded in 4:3. This is of a live performance so I can't just get it shot again. I have several questions.
1. The 16:9 footage imported using the Sony XDCAM transfer software actually looks like true 16:9 not the standard squeezed DV. Is this normal? Will this be a problem trying to mix with standard MiniDV 16:9 that is the "squeezed" format.
2. What would be the best way for me to convert the 4:3 clip into 16:9. I am thinking I should use the Motion tab to make the clip 130% then export using Quicktime conversion as DV-PAL 16:9 crop. I have tried this and I end up with the "squeezed" 16:9 DV style.
3. What can I do to get the MiniDV 16:9, and the XDCAM 16:9 as the same format so I can edit in the same timeline?

As you can tell I don't have a good handle on the file formats and how they are handled. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Ralph Atkinson

AJA Kona 3 will uprez SD to HD or a Terranex. Trying to stretch it from 4:3 to 16:9 will look poor.

Thanks,
I had checked this and another "how to" online but I was getting confused as 2 of the standard imports hadn't automatically been flagged as Anamorphic in the transfer however the XDCAM was. Plus, when I exported the 4:3 adjusted to 16:9 as a 16:9 DV file it didn't automatically select the anamorphic flag.
I have since found where to manually select the anamorphic flag for each clip and sequence. I think I have it now. Unfortunately the quality isn't great of course but I think I can make it usable for this task.

Thanks for the help.
Ralph
