SATA RAID 5

SATA RAID 5

Hi all,

I'm replacing an IDE RAID with a SATA RAID. Time to upgrade, and buying replacement IDE drives is like patching the Titanic.

I can't find a reasonably priced RAID-5 card, and that's what I've used in the past. Is it because storage is so cheap? Cheaper to buy 4TB and RAID it to 2TB instead of 2.5TB and run a parity drive?

Suggestions?

Thanks,

-MW

I think you'll have to look into a whole new RAID system....like you said.

CalDigit has the HD Pro...that is a RAID card and drive chassis and drives.
Dulce Systems has the Duo Quad...again, card and drives.

Then you get into Fibrechannel and the cost goes up...But the above options I feel are very reasonably priced.

I sell a 4 SATA RAID external with a PCI-x or PCI-e card that can be set to firmware RAID 0,1,5 or 10. Please check out this solution to see if it isn't a good fit for your system.

John, I dig it. I need a bigger enclosure -- preferably an 8-bay rack mountable. I didn't see it on your website and no answer at the 800 number. Do you have anything like that?
