Hi Gang,

We may be in a position to recieve a free HDV camera from Sony - and I am not experienced with the format.

I can see that the HVR-V1U looks better, in that there's a 24p option (albeit with 2:3 pulldown), AND it has XLR audio inputs.

Any other things to be aware of/pros and/or cons? Someone else at my office seems to prefer the FX1, and I am not informed enough to even have the conversation, beyond the features mentioned above.

Both cams produce stunning images for the price but its editing HDV that is a bit of a pain in the butt. There are tons of articles and reviews and tech specs and workflows out there for both cams. Just Gogle. If you have FCS2 then it is best to convert the footage to ProRes and edit that rather than HDV. You will be much happier.

Thanks Mike - we'll be upgrading to Stude 2 in the next couple of weeks.
