Moving a project from Avid Film Composer to FCP 5

I shot a short film on 35mm and it was edited on an Avid Film Composer. We got as far as having the audio track laid before we ran out of budget for the time being. EDL and embedded OMF were made and we had to get out of the edit suite. Now, two years later, I have my own Final Cut Pro 5 and am interested in re-opening the project and adjusting editing a bit further before we go for mix and neg cut . I can get the picture edl up but I have no way of getting into the omf file. Do you know of any way that I could transfer the project smoothly from the Film composer to FCP 5? I would appreciate very much any advice on this matter.

I know there is software out there called Automatic Duck which might do the trick but it is ?500 a pop and I only need to use it once so I am looking for more cost effective solutions.

EDL should enable you to batch redigitize your project. If you need access to your original omf file, you're really going to need something like the automatic duck.

OMF is an Avid format and not widely supported outside Avid.

You could pay someone who has automatic duck to do the conversion for you.
