720X480 export - stills

Having a bit of a problem. I export a jpg (or tiff) still from photoshop with the image size of 720 X 480. I import into FCP (with seq settings of 720 X 480, uncomopressed 8-bit) - and the image at 100% scale does not quite fit the screen. It doesn't fill out the top and bottom of the canvas screen. Vertically, it's needing more image. All my other settings are at 720 X 480, and in audio/video settings. In canvas - doesn't matter whether I select "show as square pixels." Same problem.

Thanks for your help,

DF

720x534

After you've made your graphic, go to Image Size and, making sure Constrain Proportions is deselected and Bicubic is selected, change the height of the image to 480 or 486, as appropriate.

It does sound like you got bit by the 480/486 thing. Uncompressed "D1" video (486) makes up for the oddball half-line that NTSC has top and bottom and it's slightly larger than the consumer grade 480 which just pretends it's not there.

By the way, we create graphics at double both directions--1440 x 1080. When we get the graphic perfect, we resize it to 720 x 486 with constrain proportions turned off and the resulting slight softness gets rid of interfield sparklies and flutters automatically without adding any more overlays or filters.
