AVCHD Media Editing with FCP

Panasonic?s HDC-SD5 is an HD 3CCD Camcorder that uses the AVCHD codac to record full-HD video with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The camera records video onto SDHC/SD Memory Cards. The cards can be transferred to the Panasonic VW-PT2 40GB Hard Drive, or with an optional newly released DVD burner (model VW-BN1), users can copy or play back video recordings in the original AVCHD format.

My Questions are:

1. Can this Panasonic VW-PT2 40GB Hard Drive be mounted as a disk for transferring video files to FCP for HD editing?

2. Can DVD's burned with the original AVCHD format be used to archive footage, then transferred to FCP for HD editing.

3. What FCP HD set up should be used for editing?

Never give up, there is always a solution

I am not familiar with VW-PT2 Hard Drive. If it connects to a Mac via USB I'd wager it would show up. I cant tell what in heck it is though. If the DVD is just the AVCHD files than sure it will copy over to your Mac. You cant edit AVCHD with FCP unless you have FCP 6.0.1 and an Intel Mac. You need to convert the files to ProRes or AIC. Doesn't matter which.
