Soft start/finish to effect?
October 10, 2007 10:17AM
I know I've read about this here but I can't find how to smooth out the beginning and end of a zoom effect. I thought it was called "soft start" but it doesn't come up in the search. Anybody?

Thanks in advance.

OK, found it:

control/click on keyframe, choose "smooth".

Ease In Ease Out? One of those things that you simply need to keep trying until you get it the way you like it. Control Clicking on the keyframe and choosing smooth doesnt always work well for me anyway. But if it did for you, so much the better.

How do you do the ease in/out thing so that you can control the parameters? The control-click just happened to work for something I needed done quickly...

In the manual Tim.

control click on the starting or ending Keyframes and select 'ease in/ease out' from the contextual menu

You can hand-control the velocity of your feather ins and outs by dragging on the motion path's purple handle. As Mike says, check the manual, it's pretty detailed. You have to experiment.

Ease in and out is a real beast. You MUST experiment or just forget it and use a plug in like Lyric.

to that end read up on the FCP QuickView window:

a bit of a hang-over from the bad old days of not much RT,
but it's incredibly useful for previewing tweaks on effects.

The option-click "smooth" option worked fine for what I needed. Normally I'm not blessed with loads of time to fine tune things. None the less, I'm planning a rather extensive edit (my own project) that uses tons of still photos so I'm gonna look into that plug-in. Thanks guys.
