You would think this would be a searchable topic.

The Avid people handed me a PhotoJPEG QuickTime that they want put on a Movie DVD. It's 960 x 540 at 24.000. It's a 2.35 CinemaScope show inside the frame with letterbox bars.

It's also five minutes long, so I have to worry about sound sync.

I got the frame configuration to come out right with two passes through QuickTime Pro, but the framerate conversion is a stumper. I'm sure there is also a way to do the frame size conversion in one go on a Final Cut timeline, too, but that's not as critical as the rate conversion.

The object is to end up with a heavily letterboxed NTSC DVD presentation running with in-sync sound and no jump frames.

Koz, have you tried using Cinema Tools?

that can simply alter the clips play-back speed.
it works betwen 24 and 24 fps, i know
remember i am from PAL land, so dont know if it works from 24 to 23.976

open CT,
it will ask you to open a database, but just cancel that stage.
open the clip (apple O)
and then click CONFORM (lower right in CT v3)

pretty sure this work.
and no nasty re-compression or frame-juggling.
should be an ever-so-slight slow-down & pitch-down of the sound.

hope that works,
nick

That would be a welcome thing. I gotta wait until I can get on a machine. Any restriction on which version of CineTools?
