Spinning down LaCie Disks

Hi there,

We're editing with FCP on a MAC G5 with five external 500GB Lacie drives.

The drives spin down if we haven't accessed them in the past 10 or 20 minutes.

My question: is there a way to prevent them from spinning down? That would save us time and aggravation.

Thank in advance!

Hava

Five disks chained together is asking for trouble. Consider getting a SATA array of at least 2TB.

Check System Preferences to make sure you don't have any Sleep or Energy Saver options activated on your computer. For digital editing, you should NEVER put any of your drives to sleep.

Lacies do get clumsy if you leave them on for prolonged periods of time. Reduce the number of drives in your chain to improve performance.

Turn on power to the drives before starting your machine. Make sure that the "put drives to sleep whenever possible" box is unchecked in the energy saver prefs (system settings).

Should work.
