FCP3 problem

FCP3 problem
October 25, 2007 07:22PM
Hi, I always mixdown audio and render all before exporting, with no problems. Now, when doing a "reference movie" it takes looonnngggg time, exactly like doing a "self-contained movie", even though I don't check the "self-contained".
Trashing preferences, repairing permissions, restarting, don't help.
Reinstalling FCP will help? Any ideas?
Thanks!
(I have applications in my internal hd and fcpmedia in an external. enough free space)

No ideas without information. VERY VAGUE POST.
How big external hard drive?
How much free space on external hard drive?
How big internal hard drive
How much free space on that?
Where are your render files stored?
What source codec?
What timeline codec?
What is the running time of your piece?
How looooonnngggg is long?
Approximate time?
What do you remember typical time being?
FCP 3.x what? Those dots are important.
Might you think that running FCP 3 with 10.4.10 would be asking for trouble. They're YEARS apart. Maybe 10.2.8 or 10.3.9 tops.

Have you tried tossing render files and rerendering?

Where is the reference movie going to? Internal or back to external media drive? Do you have a third drive it can go to? I think it sometimes helps to have a destination independent of both system and scratch disk.

Just a thought.

ho large are the files that get made?
maybe they are not true ref movies
maybe they are ref movies that contain "render" media.

is your timeline completely rendered?

VER VAGUE POST! Dios Mio! I am sorry for my not too cientific explanation, although some of your questions are answered there i guess. OK,
-300external 100free, 100internal 50 free, render files in fcpmedia(external),
dv from GL-2, FCP3.0.4, no problems so far with 10.4.10, "too long" exactly as a "selfcontained" i have righ now a 1h45min. party, should take 5 mins. for a video only movie and 3 min. for an aiff movie, (this way i just put the aiff in APack, and then go to dvdstudiopro and save a lot of time), it's taking like 2 hours now, reference movie going to internal, no third drive, timeline completely rendered.
Will try trashing render files and re-rendering...ufff Thank you guys!

is your timeline really completely rendered?
no olive-grey "Full" render quality sections?

trashing renders would re-set the render settings in the sequence menu,
and by default the "Full" quality does NOT get rendered with a "Render All"

oh, sorry,
you wont have that olive-Grey "full" setting in FCP3.

i guess you'd notice if you had a bright green render line

"Will try trashing render files and re-rendering...ufff Thank you guys!"

why not just live with you existing export?

Thanks Nick for your feedback. Maybe you don't remember, but in some other ocassions you have been helpful too. Some others i guess don't wanna mess with "old" fcps.
Thank you, God bless you Nick!
