Canon XL2 and iPhoto '08 problem?

I installed iLife '08 recently and, ever since, I've been unable to use my Canon XL2 as a VTR in FCP 5.1. Whenever I plug the XL2 into Firewire, iPhoto starts up. If I try to open FCP with the camera hooked up to firewire I get the "whirling cursor of death" and I have to "opt-apple-esc" to force quit. Same thing happens if I start up FCP and then plug in the firewire. The whirling cursor appears and, if I check preferences, it will read "unrecognized VTR". It's not an urgent problem, but does anyone knows how to solve it?

My guess is that iPhoto has a driver that recognizes the XL2 as a still camera and it creates the conflict in FCP.
