Converting VOB to MOV files

I received a DVD with old home movies in VOB format. Can anyone give me advice on how to convert them to MOV files? The ultimate goal is to be able to edit them. My thanks for any help you can give me.

Is there anyway to extract a DVD track/chapter and rip that as part of another dvd without losing generation?

Mac the Ripper [www.mactheripper.org] can zero in on individual chapters,

and myDVDedit: [www.mydvdedit.com] can be used to re-compile, i think.
