Mac g5
Final cut pro 5.0.4

I just finished shooting some footage with the p2.
I had my settings at 420 30p dvcpro 50 (which is probably the reason)

I got it into the mac. I converted teh file into a self contained FCP QT file.
. It is about 20 minutes of footage and it came out to 4.53 gigs.

How can I export and get the file smaller?

Thanks

How much smaller do you need it to be? Compressor is what you'd use to convert to different formats/codecs and change the size of your file. You realize of course that this implies a lessening of quality?

When you import P2, you import using the settings it was recorded as...nothing else. So if it was shot DVCPRO 50, then it will import as DVCPRO 50. Why do you want it smaller? Edit at lower res and then reconnect at higher res? Might need to use the RECOMPRESS option of the Media Manager, or Compressor to compress it smaller. But you will still have the original imports.

Really, it would be much easier to just deal with the full res imports. Hard drives are cheap.

Plus - 4ishGB for 20 minutes is about the same as mini dv size. Around 12GB per hour. This is not big. In fact, it seems too small for DVCPRO 50.
