4 angles 1 good looking 16:9Posted by J.Corbett
i have a shoot with 4 angles on my tedious capture i noticed that 1 cam was set to 16:9 (panasonic gs520).
at first i was thinking to remove the pull down but the more i look at this angle the prettier it looks to me. so my question is can i edit this piece as normal and the just export 16:9 without the 1 angle being effected (re-crunched / re-squoozed if you will)? Are you associating aspect ratio with frame rate? Check yer facts on that one.
My bet is you have three 4x3 angles and one 16x9 angle and they're all at 29.97. The 16x9 angle is either letterboxed NTSC (likely) or anamorphic (doubt it) so you get to rezise the 16x9 angle to make it fit. All four angles will have to be captured as 4x3 so your basic editing won't be affected but your final product will require some finessing. ak Sleeplings, AWAKE!
I clip captured and when i open that 16:9 angle in the viewer it is ide screen to the viewer the when on the tl it is still 16:9( looks to be the 35 top and bottom crop or letter box, it goes in deeper than the tittle safe).
That means that the letter box is already capture right. If so then will the export to a 16:9 fcp qt only effect the 4:3 clips or will it mess with the angle that angle this currently 16:9 also? delivery to dvd for play on widescreen hdtv. ( my footage isn't hd. )
I was looking at the clips and think that i would need to run the 3 - 4/3 angles thru compressor to get them to 16/9. then edit in the 16/9 TL. And yes i think i am gonna stop shooting in 4/3. I like the spacing of the 16/9. It kind gets rid of the unnecessary elements. What is the aspect of the deeper than 16:9 crop? I think its called academy standard. thanx for the time saver. naw, just scale them up in FCP. 4/3 > 16/9 is a 133.33 percent blow up then you can re-frame as you need to for headroom. Just remember to change your motion scaling to "highest Quality" in the sequence settings "video Processing Tab" before you do your final render. you could even edit with pillar boxing (the black bars on left & right) and do all your fix ups later. RATIOS: Academy is 4/3. actually 4/3 is 1.33:1 i think true academy is 1.37:1? other cinematic ratios: 1.66:1 euro wide 1.85:1 us wide (16/9 is 1.78:1 so sits in between those 2) then you've got your 2.0:1 (70mm) 2.35:1 (anamorphic panavision) etc some one may correct me on all this. there's a lot of web-sites out there with this info. cheers, nick
In my external monitor, when i blow the 4/3 up to 133.33 it seems to be vertically stretched, the 16/9 angle look proportionate.

my external has no 16/9 option. In the canvas it look fine and on the cam viewer it look okay. its just my old school monitor i guess.
