In double speed the audio is broken up,
can FCP scrub emulate "tape playback" ?

Have you tried zooming the waveform before scrubbing?

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.

Did it work?

Yes, somewhat, by zooming closer to the waveform the "scrub" playback is smoother.
still... I was hoping for more of an analog "mickey mouse" double speed "tape" sound.

I thought maybe it might be a preference.

I'm usually able to get double-speed playback relatively smoothly. Perhaps it's a RAM issue? Processor speed? I've been working on talking heads for two weeks and we set up the clients with a laptop, speakers and double-speed playback through about four hours of cut interviews.

I think the latest Soundtrack Pro has this as a feature.Yeah, here from the blurb

"professional tools designed for post-production include spectrum view editing, tape-style scrubbing, and the multichannel Waveform Editor."

I tried it a while ago and it was very nice. Don't think this exists in FCP yet, though.
