importing Media LogsPosted by son8
I know that this can be done (i think I even read about it here) - but I am not sure how, and I cant seem to find the mention of it.
I have a media log that is tab delineated - just tape number * in * out * clip name * video * audio I need to import this into FCP so I can batch capture all these logged clips Thanks in advance for any help or even showing me the way to the info already here.
in FCP you'd want to create a new bin,
open it, then import > Batch List. the trick s that the column names have to match exactly the columns in FCP. as far as that goes, i'm pretty sure the essentials are: Name (not clip name) Reel (not tape number) Media Start Media End (rather than "in" and "out" hope that helps. nick
i htink that's a problem with the Column headings.
gotta have the names exactly right, as i said. simple way to fix this is to use FCP against itself (judo move!): first create a bin in FCP with the columns you want, then export that bin as a Batch List. copy/paster your data into the correct columns no conflict possible this way! good luck, nick
lol - OK
I did the suggested and came up with this odd anomaly. I cut and paste the heading from the FCP reverse created edit log and put it into my "want to import this info into FCP" list - I get this "one or more items on the header line do not match valid Browser column headers." error and it wont do it. I have found some problems with my list that FCP doesn't like - (like my list says 'no audio' when there is no audio - but FCP just seems to like an empty tab for no audio.) But I am pretty sure I figguread all of those out. So I tried to cut and paste the whole FCP created reverse edit log - put it into and text document and open that - and I get the same headings error!!. If I export the file and try to import it again - it works fine, but if I copy all of the text in the file and put that into a text document, change nothing about it, and save it. That file wont import ...? Im not sure if it is anything the text program is doing to the list, but I have spent a few hours trying countless versions of this, and still no luck. If anyone has any expierence with this - again - please let me know, I can feel that i am very close - but just not yet. thanks
ok, log some of your clips in FCP,
set it up with JUST the columns you want. and export as a batch list. bring it into your spreadsheet app, and have a close look. maybe there is something wrong with the way the Timecodes have been entered? even an extra space in the wrong place might throw it off, but all those things would be easy to fix in Excel, if you know how to. (i dont!) nick
