And I JUST bought the original MXO box!!

Although I will say that this doesn't seem to fit the current workflow of DVI to Cinema Display monitoring. Are there really a lot of HDMI braodcast monitors out there for the MXO2 to be useful?

This looks really interesting too - FED monitoring - true blacks, real off-axis viewing. Could be the answer to CRTs.

My only issue is this statement from the website :

"We plan to target those discriminating users who can see the difference that nano-Spindt FED technology brings to the screen as we go forward with our marketing plans."

Which reads to me as 'it's going to be expensive'.

Oh well, CRTs still work great here.

Amen to that Jude...

I wonder if this will be the end of calibrating?

Quote
Excerpt from FED website...
The nano-Spindt FED uses CRT phosphors calibrated to SMPTE/EBU standards, which have been time-tested in the broadcast and video production industries. These phosphors do not just emulate but accurately reproduce the color gamut in accordance with the SMPTE/EBU colorimetry.

Hmm good point. Surely the brightness would fade over time though, so recalibration would become necessary? Or maybe it wouldn't fade. In any case, it sounds like it will be > my budget. winking smiley

MXO 2 does not output to Apple display...no DVI. SO the original MXO is a good choice. I have a full rundown...well, best I could get while WORKING the show, on my blog.

Saw the FED monitors. NICE. No price point...no release date. But the blacks are BETTER than CRT. Not that it matters with all the crappy HD TVs people are using to watch TV...an SD signal no less.

eCInema monitors looked great. But $10k. Tough to get psyched about Red. Sorry, but the current cameras are going firmware updates to fix things all the time, and the Scarlett...eeeh. Not $3k...but in reality $10k to get a usable camera. And the workflow AIN'T simple...

found out today from one of the plugin booths that starting July it'll now be possible to export a project and import in Avid without having to capture in Avid.
News to me but maybe not for others.

Red showed off Scarlet: 3K for less than 3 grand.
The workflow is improving between Red and FCP.

Panasonic introduced an avchd cam. with SD card.
A new hvx 200 with minor changes:better gamma and capture chips.
A new cam. in the 200 vibe without tape recording capability.

A cool way to handle reality tv logging with a keyword search feature.

Smaller and bigger: Nothing new but iptv, mobile tv, streaming tv is all over the place.... and at the same time Red annouces a 5 K version of Red one for next year

...don'tcha just hate when they don't list the price?

i hate it, but Jude & I are perhaps used to it.
a LOT of sites in Australia wont list prices,
you have to call and ask.

for example:

Yeah, this is why I rely so much on the VideoGuys - one of the few places in OZ that lists prices on almost anything, unless it's a customizable thing like a suite.
