PAL formatting

Hi everyone

i need to make a PAL DVD of a project I made in NTSC format, and I'm not sure about the sequence settings i should use. it's for a festival so i don't want to mess up.

I'm running FCP 6.0

i'm guessing the frame size should be CCIR 601 / DV PAL (5:4) and the pixel aspect ratio should be PAL - CCIR 601 (720x576)
editing time base ????
compresor (for quicktime video settings) DV-PAL

does that sound right?

thanks

Don't just stick the Sequence/movie file into an FCP PAL Sequence and render. FCP does not do standards conversion well. This topic is discussed all the time in here. Do a search in the forum for "standards conversion", and also look in the FAQ:

yeah, FCP is no good for standards conversion.

export as a QuickTIme movie,
then run that thru compressor

i guess you can go direct to an NTSC format Mpeg file,
but go into the settings and turn all the "frame control" and "re-size" settings to best.

another thing to consider is do you really have to make a PAL DVD?
99.95% of all PAL DVD players and TVs will play NTSC DVD's, too.

cheers,

Wow. Is it that time of the year again?

Read this. Lots of stuff, including the famous macworld webpage.
