Not necessarily. Trash preferences, restart final cut. That should fix it.

Which version of FCP are you running? I haven't seen this happen on FCP 6/Leopard yet...

deleted file called "final cut pro 5.0 pref" inside "final cut pro user data" inside folder "final cut pro user data" found inside preferences folder inside library. it didn't help

should I delete the entire folder?

i've had long renders freaking FCP out like that, too.

sometimes they weren't that complex,
but they did involve large-ish files:

i just had to render in small sections, and keep my eye on it.
but then i did discover what could be a workaround.

one section had finished, and i hadn't noticed.
o FCP started doing an Auto render
when i came back, i had the warning again,
BUT
the whole show was rendered.

i suspect auto-render might just plough on regardless of the warning.

so you could open your user prefs, and set auto render to 1 minute and see what happens.
one thing: Auto render WONT render the grey "Full" quality effects.
if you have any of those they will require another (manual) pass

good luck.

That's in the FAQ. Trashing preferences helps keep the system light...

It's strange, I used to see that on FCP 5, on the longer projects. The first thing i always do is to restart the mac, and trash/reload preferences. Don't recall seeing that after a fresh restart. Restarts usually clear the RAM.

Here's something you can use next time instead of preference trashing (for tiger to leopard):

If you're not on Tiger, you could try:

strangely what seemed to be really gunking up the works is that I have begun dragging some stills into the timeline and. .. I think I dragged in a photoshop file that had layers. . . and this became unrenderable! got that message and found when I brought back in a flattened image it needed no rendering anyhoo!
