LaCies may or may not be less reliable that other FW drives. Personally, I don't trust them. That's just me.

But the question is, why not buy a FW drive that's cheaper from somewhere like WeibeTech, or OWC? They all pretty much use the same chipset. Only difference is the physical enclosure.

Myself I never buy a FW enclosure that includes the drive(s.) I always like to pick out the drive myself (almost always Seagate.) It's just too damn important.

I think its one of the major design flaws in Lacie - the case overheats the HDD and cooks it...

..and Maxtor Mechs just fall over like dominos when heated.

You may have the same Mech & Bridgeset in another case and never experience a problem because the other electrics and cooling are better.
