Capture HDV in FCP for client using Premier Pro CS3

I'm capturing HDV 24F footage from a Canon XH A1 HDV camera for a client that is cutting with Premier Pro CS3.

I'm wondering if the Quicktime files captured in FCP6 will also work in Premier Pro CS3?

Unfortunately, I have no way to test this before the client picks up the hard drive.

Cheers!

They won't. The HDV codec that FCP captures to only comes with FCP. People with Macs and without FCP will not be able to see this footage. If you did this, you'd have to transcode the footage to another codec...one that Premiere does work with.

My opinion...don't do this. Capture it in Premiere. Don't have Premiere? Send them the tapes...clone them (dub them) and send them the tapes...or buy Premiere. Never wise to capture footage on one NLE for use in another. Only causes headaches.

Thanks Shane. Good to know!

Is there a way i can transcode the quicktime clips to be used in Premier? Maybe from HDV to Quicktime 8-bit?

Thanks!

YOu can transcode...either with the media Manager or Compressor or QT. But this requires TESTING...that you said you don't have time to do. Make time...getting something that works is more important than getting it to the client quickly. Quick and incompatible isn't as good as slightly tardy, but workable.
