OT cinema display weirdness

Hi All

I have a cinema display which I have been using for years with my laptop.
It´s one of those old plastic 23 inch things. Guess that it is about 5 years old.
The best investment I ever made. smiling smiley

I have it connected to my laptop and use it as my main display for FCP & Co.

One day about 2 months ago I no longer got a picture on my cinema display.
Have since tried connecting another digital monitor to the same laptop also no picture.
A friend came with his laptop which is almost identical to mine and we got a picture straight away on the cinema display!

So I don´t think that it is the cable!

The weird thing is that as soon as I connect my laptop to a analogue device (monitor/beamer)......
i.e. via a digital to analogue adaptor!
.....I get a picture!

and this using the same digital output as mentioned above

I was getting my hard drive changed and the people in the repair shop who we´re basically doing me a favor had a quick look and didn´t see anything unusual!

It´s like there is a signal but there is no signal? Weird.

Any one got any ideas? Before I hand my laptop in to be dissected?

thanks

Hi Paul

Long time. This usually can be cured by zapping your pram assuming the video card is OK.

Do a restart and immediately Hold down the Apple, Option and P and R keys. Hold it down until you hear the start up chime bong 4 times. let go. Hopefully that will work.

You coming to the SuperMeet?

Yeah...and I occasionally pull the monitor port plugs & re-seat them - in & out - to scrape off any schmutz build-up. Check the pins on the plugs as well...one may be bent / loose. It's easy to forget / take for granted how really flimsy equipment connections are.

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.

many thanks

have tried Michael's PRAM suggestion

and connected to two digital monitors now.

i.e. two different cables.

no joy

Will try taking a hover to the monitor socket on my laptop.

But suspect that it is hopeless. Thanks all the same Joey.

Another weird thing is that when I pull the plug for the digital monitor I suddenly get a "No signal" message.

As if there was a signal there. But I sure as hell ain´t seen any pictures and I am not blind yet!

Yep should be at the super meet in Amsterdam with some of the Berlin crew.

We had our meeting last night see link for photos.

All in all, very cosy.

Cosy final BUG meeting

looking forward to amsterdam. smileys with beer

again thanks

Paul
